Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
